The -5 is the heaviest Spec C1 COMBAT makes, built for older, stronger travel ball hitters getting ready for the next level. The 2027 COMBAT MFG Spec C1 Sandstorm -5, model CUT7C1S5, is a two-piece composite USSSA bat with a big 2-3/4 inch barrel, a balanced swing weight, and a vibration-dampening connection. At -5, it puts real weight behind the ball and keeps the bigger barrel and higher performance standard of a USSSA bat. It’s aimed at 13U players, and at 14U players in areas that still allow a -5. The Sandstorm finish runs top to bottom, with warm sand paint, COMBAT’s script logo in black and hot pink, bold SPEC C1 lettering, a sand grip, and a hot pink knob. If the -5 is more bat than your player needs right now, the Spec C1 -6.5 is a half step lighter. When it’s time for BBCOR, the COMBAT Spec H1 and Spec A1 are ready.
The build is the same one that runs through the whole Spec C1 line! COMBAT’s two-piece composite design joins the barrel and handle with a connection built to dampen vibration. That matters more as older hitters face faster pitching and make harder contact! The 2-3/4 inch barrel is as big as USSSA allows, an eighth of an inch wider than a BBCOR barrel. A balanced swing weight keeps the -5 quick through the zone, even with the added weight. COMBAT finishes it with the Clinch Spec Grip for tack and cushion. The Spec C1 -5 carries the USSSA 1.15 BPF stamp. It is not approved for USA Baseball (Little League) play or for high school and college, which require BBCOR, and some 14U events now require BBCOR or wood. It comes in 30, 31, and 32 inch lengths at 25, 26, and 27 ounces, and COMBAT backs it with a 12 month manufacturer’s warranty.
The last couple of years before high school are full of bat decisions, and we help families make them every day. LongballBats.com has been the Bat Performance Experts since 2016. Our friendly staff offers players, parents and coaches more than 100 years of combined baseball and softball experience, and we’ve gotten our hands on tens of thousands of bats over the years. That means we know how a -5 USSSA bat compares with a -3 BBCOR in a 13 or 14 year old’s hands! We carry the full Spec C1 run, along with COMBAT’s Spec A1 and Spec H1 BBCOR bats, so your player can follow the same family from travel ball into high school. When a COMBAT colorway like Sandstorm sells out, it often turns up in our Rare Finds section. Need a little advice? Call or email us with your player’s age, league, and current bat, and we’ll help you decide whether the -5 is the right move!

QUESTION: Can my player use the Spec C1 -5 in 13U and 14U?
ANSWER: In 13U, yes. USSSA requires a -8 drop or heavier bat in 13U, and the -5 qualifies. That includes the Elite World Series, where 13 Majors teams must use a -5, BBCOR, or wood bat. 14U is where it gets tricky. USSSA’s bat rule calls for a -5 or heavier in 14U, but starting in 2026, -3 BBCOR became the 14U national standard unless your state adopted a -5 exception. On top of that, 14 Majors teams at Select Super NITs, Super NITs, and the Elite World Series must use BBCOR or wood. Before you buy for a 14U player, check with your state director or tournament host to see whether a -5 is allowed. Still not sure? Call us!
QUESTION: Is the Spec C1 -5 a good way to get ready for BBCOR?
ANSWER: It’s a great step, but it isn’t the same as swinging a BBCOR bat. The -5 gets your player used to swinging more weight, which is one of the biggest adjustments in the move to a -3. What it doesn’t change is the barrel. The Spec C1 has a 2-3/4 inch USSSA barrel built to the 1.15 BPF standard, while BBCOR bats have a 2-5/8 inch barrel built to a stricter performance standard. Expect a smaller hitting surface and less pop when your player makes the switch. Many families use a -5 for the 13U season and then move to BBCOR for 14U or high school, mixing in some BBCOR swings along the way.
QUESTION: Should my player get the Spec C1 -5 or a BBCOR bat like the Spec H1?
ANSWER: It depends on where they’ll play. If your player’s league or tournaments still allow USSSA bats, the Spec C1 in -5 drop gives them a bigger barrel and more performance. If they’re playing 14U events that require BBCOR, high school ball, or any league that only allows -3 bats, they’ll need a BBCOR bat. In Combat’s lineup, that means the Spec H1, a two-piece hybrid with an alloy barrel and composite handle, or the one-piece alloy Spec A1. Some players carry both: the -5 for travel ball and a BBCOR bat for school or BBCOR-only events. We’re happy to help you figure out which one, or both, makes sense - just contact us!
QUESTION: Should my player get the Spec C1 -5 or the -6.5?
ANSWER: The -5 drop is an ounce and a half heavier at every length. A 31 inch -5 weighs 26 ounces, and a 31 inch -6.5 weighs 24.5. If your player is already strong and on time, or their division requires a -5, go with the -5. If they’re still building strength, or they’re a younger player who wants more weight than a -8 but isn’t ready for a -5, the -6.5 drop is the better fit. Keep in mind that the -6.5 isn’t legal in 14U. Players heading into 14U where a -5 is allowed should choose the -5.
