Marucci built the Rckless for a specific kind of kid: the one who swings hard, plays fast, and doesn't want a bat that gets in the way. The 2027 CATX Rckless Gen 2 Composite -8 is the second generation of that idea, and it lands in the drop where a lot of 12U and 13U hitters live, with two more ounces of barrel mass than a -10 and a mid-loaded swing weight that puts that mass to work. What makes the Rckless different from the other premium two-piece composites in the rack is how it feels at contact. Most two-piece bats go soft at the joint. Marucci's OLS Connection goes the other way, building what Marucci calls the stiffest connection available while still dismissing virtually all vibration, so the hitter gets a direct, one-piece style feel with two-piece comfort. It looks the part too: a black barrel with neon green branding and a bright green grip that shows up from across the field.

The barrel is where the Gen 2 earns its name. Marucci's FLEX Composite Barrel uses fiber-layered energy exchange to maximize barrel flex and responsiveness, and it is built ring-free, with no internal restrictor rings, so the whole hitting surface is free to flex with no dead spots between the sweet spot and the end cap. New for Gen 2 is a softer True Flex end cap that lets the barrel flex further toward the end of the bat, which is exactly where a mid-loaded -8 tends to make contact and exactly where a little extra forgiveness matters most. Behind the barrel sits the PFX Composite Handle, Player-Optimized Flex tuned specifically for the -8 drop rather than borrowed from the -10, so the handle flexes the way a 12 or 13 year old's swing loads it. Marucci rounds it out with a knob shape optimized for each drop and an Enhanced Soft-Touch 1.75mm grip with a debossed pattern for feel and control. Full 2-3/4 inch barrel, USSSA 1.15 BPF certified, one year warranty.

A -8 is the drop where families most often move up too early, and the Rckless Gen 2's mid-loaded profile makes the sizing question even more important. That's exactly what LongballBats.com is here for. We've been the Bat Performance Experts since 2016, our staff carries more than 100 years of combined baseball and softball experience, and we've helped thousands of travel ball families decide between a Rckless, an Icon, a Hype Fire, and everything else in the -8 class. Tell us your player's age, height, current bat, and how they're hitting with it, and we'll tell you honestly whether the Rckless Gen 2 -8 is the right move or whether one more season in a -10 will produce a better hitter. We'd rather sell you the right bat than just the next bat!

QUESTION: Should I order this bat stock/untouched or Heat Rolled with Progressive Pressure?
ANSWER: If you order your new bat Heat Rolled with Progressive Pressure, it will be delivered to you completely and evenly broken in. This process adds 20-40ft of distance to your solid hits, increases consistency, improves durability and adds 2-3 business days of lead time to your order. If you plan to use the bat in an official game or event, please verify the legality of our process with your league or sanctioning body before use. We (LongballBats.com) do not encourage the use of a Heat Rolled bat in any game or event where it is against the rules. Click here for details about our process!

QUESTION: What's new on the Rckless Gen 2 compared to the original CATX Rckless?
ANSWER: The Gen 2 carries forward the FLEX Composite Barrel, ring-free construction, OLS Connection, and PFX Composite Handle that made the first Rckless a hit, and adds a new, softer True Flex end cap. That end cap lets the barrel flex further toward the end of the bat, extending the usable sweet spot and adding forgiveness on contact off the end. Marucci also expanded the Gen 2 into a much bigger family, thirteen models across composite, alloy, and hybrid builds, and gave the whole line a new look. If you loved the 2026 Rckless, the Gen 2 is the same bat with a more forgiving end cap and fresh graphics.

QUESTION: What does mid-loaded mean, and is it right for a -8?
ANSWER: Mid-loaded means the barrel mass sits between a balanced bat and a true end load. Marucci describes it as a medium MOI, which in plain terms means the -8 has enough weight toward the barrel to add carry when a hitter squares one up, but not so much that the bat feels slow through the zone. For a -8 that's the right recipe. A hitter moving up from a -10 gets a noticeable bump in power without having to relearn their timing, and a strong 12 or 13 year old gets a bat that rewards a full swing. If your player is on the small side or still developing bat speed, the Rckless Gen 2 -10 is the safer starting point.

QUESTION: How does the Rckless Gen 2 -8 compare to the Rawlings Icon -8 and Easton Hype Fire -8?
ANSWER: All three are premium two-piece composite USSSA -8 bats with a 2-3/4 inch barrel, and the difference is feel. The Rckless uses Marucci's OLS Connection, the stiffest of the three, paired with a ring-free flex barrel, for a direct, loud, one-piece style feel with the vibration removed. The Icon uses Rawlings' Zero Loss TPU collar, also firm, with a balanced swing weight and a slight end load. The Hype Fire uses Easton's ConneXion Max, a softer elastomer joint that gives the smoothest, most forgiving feel of the three on mishits. Hitters who want feedback and a stiff, connected swing tend to prefer the Rckless or Icon. Hitters who want comfort on every swing tend to prefer the Hype Fire. We carry all three and we're happy to help you choose!
