The 2027 Rawlings ICON BBCOR baseball bat (RBB7I3) is the newest version of the two-piece composite that put Rawlings back in the conversation with high school and college hitters! It carries the same core recipe that made the ICON a fixture in dugouts since it debuted: a full carbon composite barrel, a composite handle, and a reinforced connection between the two. For 2027, Rawlings kept what worked and refined the feel. The result? A -3 BBCOR bat with a big, forgiving barrel that stays firm through contact, which is exactly what you want when a fastball catches you an inch off the sweet spot.
The barrel is built with Rawlings In/Tense Carbon Composite, a seamless layup that lets Rawlings push the barrel profile out as far as the 2-5/8 inch BBCOR limit allows while keeping wall stiffness consistent from the end cap back toward the taper. In practical terms, that means a longer usable hitting area and more consistent exit velocity on contact that isn't perfectly centered. Connecting the barrel to the handle is Zero Loss Technology, a strengthened TPU collar that stiffens the joint so energy from your hands goes into the ball instead of bleeding off at the connection. You still get the vibration control that makes a two-piece composite easier on the hands than a one-piece, but the contact feel is firm and direct (rather than mushy.)
Rawlings tunes the ICON BBCOR to a balanced swing weight with a hint of load toward the barrel, so it swings quickly enough for contact hitters to stay on top of velocity while still giving stronger hitters some mass to work with through the zone. The handle is wrapped in RevGrip, a cushioned, tacky grip that holds up over long practices without getting slick. The RBB7I3 is offered in 31/28, 32/29, 33/30 and 34/31, carries the BBCOR .50 certification stamp required for NFHS high school and NCAA college play, and is backed by a one-year Rawlings manufacturer warranty.
