2027 Rawlings Icon Baseball Bat Guide: BBCOR, USSSA, USA and The Chosen One

Every September, the same thing happens in our facility: the phone starts ringing, the inbox fills up, and every third message says some version of "when does the new Icon drop?" The Rawlings Icon has earned that kind of attention! It has been one of the hottest two-piece composite bats on the market for several seasons now, and the 2027 Rawlings Icon is here to keep that streak alive.

What's New with the 2027 Rawlings Icon

Rawlings didn't blow up the recipe, and that's a good thing. The 2027 Icon family gets an all new look, and on the two-piece models, Rawlings strengthened and refined the Zero Loss Technology connection joint for added durability and stiffness in the handle. That connection point is where a two-piece bat lives or dies, so a beefier joint is welcome news for anyone who plans on hitting a lot of baseballs this spring!

The other big change is the calendar. For the first time ever, the Icon and the Icon Chosen One are part of the same drop. The two-piece Icon launched on September 16 (with retailers the next day), and the Chosen One BBCOR followed one week later on September 23 (hitting retailers September 24.) In past years, you had to wait months for the one-piece version. Not anymore!

Pricing held steady from last year. The 2026 Icon BBCOR retailed at $449.99, USSSA models at $399.99, USA models at $349.99 and the Junior Big Barrel at $299.99, and the 2027 lineup carries those same price points, with the Chosen One BBCOR at $399.99.

The look is a full departure from last year's Cool Mint colorway. The 2027 Icon BBCOR wears a deep blue finish with tonal graphics and gold branding (some retailers call it purple, and in certain light we can see why), while the youth models lean into purple, pink and blue with a snake graphic wrapping the barrel. It is loud in the best way.

The 2027 Rawlings Icon Lineup

Icon BBCOR (RBB7I3)

This is the flagship. It's a two-piece, all-composite BBCOR .50 certified bat with a 2-5/8 inch barrel, built around In/Tense Carbon Composite, Zero Loss Technology and a premium RevGrip. Rawlings calls the swing weight Tuned Balanced Performance, which means a balanced feel with a slight end load. That slight load is the whole personality of the Icon. It swings easy enough for a contact guy, but carries enough barrel mass to reward a hitter who can get it moving. It comes in 31, 32, 33 and 34 inches and is also legal for Intermediate 50/70 and Junior League divisions of Little League.

Icon The Chosen One BBCOR (RBB7IONE3)

Same barrel material, different frame. The Chosen One uses the same In/Tense Carbon Composite as the Icon but in a one-piece build, which gives it a slightly stiffer feel. For this drop, it's BBCOR only. It carries the same tuned balanced swing weight with a slight end load, a 2-5/8 inch barrel, RevGrip, and comes in 31, 32, 33, 33.5 and 34 inches. Think of it as the Icon for hitters who want the feedback of a one-piece and don't mind a little more feel in the hands. It also happens to be fifty bucks cheaper.

Icon USSSA (RUT7I10, RUT7I8, RUT7I5 and RJB7I11)

Travel ball hitters get four options. The -10 Drop, -8 Drop and -5 Drop are two-piece models with the Zero Loss connection and a premium grip, while the -11 Junior Big Barrel switches to a one-piece composite build with a perforated grip designed for developing hitters. The USSSA Icons use a 2-3/4 inch barrel and carry the USSSA BPF 1.15 stamp. The idea behind the spread of drops is simple: a kid can start on the lightweight Junior Big Barrel, step up through the -10 and -8, land on the -5, and be ready for BBCOR.

Icon USA (RUS7I12, RUS7I10, RUS7I8, RUS7I5)

For Little League and other USA Baseball leagues, the Icon comes in four drops, too. All four (the -12 Drop, -10 Drop, -8 Drop and -5 Drop) are two-piece composite bats with a 2-5/8 inch barrel, USA Baseball certification, In/Tense Carbon Composite, Zero Loss Technology and a cushioned RevGrip. The -5 USA model was a new addition in 2026, and it's back for 2027, which we love for bigger 12 year olds getting ready to move up.

One quick note on the Icon Fest. Rawlings put out two limited-edition Icon Fest colorways back in June under the 2027 model year, both in -10 Drop, both loaded with the same performance DNA as the regular Icon. Those were a short run, so if you missed them, the standard 2027 Icon is the bat to chase.

Which 2027 Icon Should You Swing?

Here's how we talk through it with families in the shop: high school or college hitters who want a forgiving barrel and a smooth, connected feel should go with the two-piece Icon BBCOR. It fits the widest range of swings of anything in the lineup.

Strong varsity hitters who like a stiff bat and want to feel every bit of contact should look at the Chosen One. One-piece composite is a specific taste, but the guys who like it really like it.

Travel ball players should let strength, not age, pick the drop. A -10 is the natural starting point for most 11 and 12 year olds. Move to a -8 when the -10 starts feeling like a toothpick, and only go -5 when a player is physically ready for the weight and close to BBCOR anyway.

USA Baseball players follow the same logic. Smaller or younger kids start at -12 or -10, and bigger kids stepping up in competition move to -8 or -5.

Coach pitch kids should grab the -11 Junior Big Barrel. It is light, it is one-piece, and it teaches good habits.
