Every fastpitch player's first real bat should do two things: swing light enough to get around on live pitching, and feel good enough that she wants to swing it again after a jam shot. Most bats at this price only manage the first. The 2027 Rawlings Kraze -13 is built to do both! It's the first hybrid bat Rawlings has ever made for fastpitch, pairing a lightweight aluminum barrel with a carbon composite handle, and that combination is usually reserved for bats costing twice as much. The -13 drop is the lightest in Rawlings' fastpitch lineup, the handle is ultra-thin, and the whole thing is tuned for an 8U, 10U, or 12U hitter who needs bat speed and control more than anything else. Add a blue barrel, a pink handle, and graffiti-style graphics with "KRAZE" splashed down the side, and you've got a bat young players actually want to carry to the field.
The reason the hybrid build matters at this age is sting. A one-piece bat sends every mishit straight into a young hitter's hands, and a kid who gets stung in April starts bailing out of the box by May. The Kraze's two-piece design puts a carbon composite handle between the barrel and the hands, and that composite flexes slightly at contact to soak up vibration before it reaches the grip. The result is a smoother, more forgiving feel on off-center contact, which keeps a developing hitter confident and swinging through the ball. The lightweight aluminum barrel keeps the swing quick and the bat durable through a full season of cage work and cold spring games, and Rawlings balanced the swing weight so the barrel stays easy to control through the zone. The 29/32 inch handle is sized for small hands, wrapped in a 1.8mm cushioned grip. Available in 26 through 31 inches, approved for USA Softball, USSSA fastpitch, NSA, ISA, and WBSC play, and backed by Rawlings' one year warranty.

QUESTION: Should I order this bat stock/untouched or Professionally Broken In?
ANSWER: Brand new baseball and softball bats need to be broken in before they perform to their full potential. Our ProMAX Break-In Service adds 20-40ft of extra distance to your solid hits, improves the durability and longevity of the bat and increases the consistency of your results on solid hits, as well. If you plan to use the bat in an official game or event, please verify the legality of our process with your league or sanctioning body before use. We (LongballBats.com) do not encourage the use of a professionally broken in bat in any game or event where it is against the rules. Click here for details about our process and if you're in a hurry, opt for our "Front of Line" service!
QUESTION: What age is the Kraze -13 built for?
ANSWER: The -13 drop is the lightest you'll find in fastpitch, and it's built for players roughly 6 to 11 years old who are in their first few seasons of kid pitch. A 26 or 27 inch fits most 6 to 8 year olds, a 28 or 29 inch most 8 to 10 year olds, and a 30 or 31 inch a taller 10 or 11 year old who still needs a light swing. Rawlings also makes the Kraze with the ultra-thin handle specifically so smaller hands can control it. Once a player is consistently driving the ball with a -13 and her hands aren't slowing down, she's ready to move to a -12 or -11.
QUESTION: How is the Kraze different from Rawlings' other youth fastpitch bats?
ANSWER: Construction. Rawlings' Ombre -11 and Eclipse -12 are one-piece alloy bats, which are durable and affordable but send more vibration to the hands on mishits. The ALO78 -12 is a two-piece composite, which has the softest feel but costs more. The Kraze -13 sits in between: a two-piece hybrid that gives a young hitter the forgiving feel of a composite handle with the quick, durable aluminum barrel of an alloy bat, at a price closer to the alloy models. If your player has complained about sting in a one-piece bat, the Kraze is the natural next step!
QUESTION: Which leagues can my player use the Kraze -13 in?
ANSWER: The RFP7KZ13 is certified for USA Softball, USSSA fastpitch, NSA, ISA, and WBSC play, which covers the vast majority of rec, travel, and tournament softball for youth players. It's a fastpitch bat only, so it isn't approved for slowpitch softball. It also isn't approved for college play, because the NCAA requires a heavier drop than -13, though that's not a concern for the age group this bat is built for. As always, confirm your league's approved bat list before game day.
