The Short Porch Scared OG is back. This is the original red Halloween Scared, a 12.5-inch, two-piece USSSA bat with a three-quarter-ounce end load, and Short Porch has brought it back for 2026. It’s dressed like a horror movie poster! The bat is matte red from knob to end cap, with cream drip lettering spelling out SCARED and SHORT PORCH and a screaming mask hiding in the O of PORCH. A black connection collar sits at the taper, and "12.5 IN / DDT / LOADED" runs down the barrel. Short Porch has run the Scared name across a whole family since the original. The Scared Summer Series comes in 12-inch endloaded and balanced USSSA versions, and the Summer Scared and Scared Summer Pink Lemonade are one-piece builds. Senior players can look at the Stacey Carr Scared.
Short Porch builds the Scared OG around its DDT, or Dual Distribution Technology, two-piece design. DDT spreads impact energy across both pieces of the bat, so more of your swing goes into the ball instead of getting soaked up at the connection. The handle is Zero Flex, so even though it’s a two-piece, it swings stiff and direct. The composite is T-800 carbon fiber with Kevlar, and a Turnkey end cap closes off the barrel. That .75 oz end load is the other big piece. It’s more weight out front than a typical half-ounce load, but you don’t have to fight a full-ounce swing to use it. The barrel carries USSSA 1.20 BPF, NSA and ISA stamps. It isn’t approved for USA Softball (ASA) play, and it isn’t an SSUSA senior bat. It comes in 34 inches at 25.5 and 26.5 ounces. Short Porch backs it with a 180-day warranty, but you have to register the bat within 30 days of purchase to activate it, and the registration card comes attached to the bat.

ANSWER: If you order your new bat Heat Rolled with Progressive Pressure, it will be delivered to you completely and evenly broken in. This process adds 20-40ft of distance to your solid hits, improves consistency, increases durability and adds 2-3 business days of lead time to your order. QUESTION: What makes this the "OG" Scared, and how is it different from the other Scared bats?
ANSWER: OG means original. This is the red Halloween Scared that started it all, brought back with its DDT two-piece build, 12.5-inch barrel and three-quarter-ounce end load. Since then, Short Porch has put the Scared name on a whole lineup. There have been After Dark, Christmas and Lucky editions, plus the Scared Summer Series in 12-inch endloaded and balanced versions. The Summer Scared and Pink Lemonade are one-piece bats, and the Stacey Carr Scared is built for senior play. If you want the original look on a two-piece DDT bat, this is the one.
QUESTION: How does a three-quarter-ounce end load feel?
ANSWER: It’s noticeably heavier out front than a half-ounce load, but it doesn’t swing like a full-ounce bat. That middle ground is the whole appeal. You get more mass behind the ball at contact, which helps carry it into the gaps and over the fence, without giving up as much bat speed as a heavier load would cost you. On a 12.5-inch barrel, the weight also sits a little farther from your hands than it would on a 12-inch bat, so the Scared swings a touch heavier than its scale weight. If you’re caught between sizes, go lighter. If you're not sure, call us!
QUESTION: Why does the Scared OG come in 25.5 and 26.5 ounces instead of whole numbers?
ANSWER: Short Porch offers a lot of its bats in half-ounce steps, and the Scared OG comes in 25.5 and 26.5. That gives you an option between the usual 25, 26 and 27-ounce sizes. With a three-quarter-ounce load on a 12.5-inch barrel, the 25.5 suits most hitters who normally swing a 25 or 26 in a lighter-loaded bat. The 26.5 is for strong hitters who want all the mass they can still control.
QUESTION: What do T-800 carbon fiber and Kevlar bring to the Scared?
ANSWER: T-800 is a high-strength grade of carbon fiber, the same family of material used in aerospace and high-end sporting goods, valued for being strong without adding much weight. Kevlar is an aramid fiber known for its toughness and impact resistance, and Short Porch uses it for durability. Together they give the Scared a lively barrel built to stand up to a full USSSA season. You’ll never see either one under the paint, but they’re a big part of what you’re swinging.
