There’s a point in a strong hitter’s development where the -10 she’s been swinging starts to feel like it’s holding her back. The hands are fast, the contact is loud, and the ball keeps dying a few feet short of where it should land. The 2027 Mizuno CRBN PRO -9 is built for that hitter! It’s the heaviest drop in Mizuno’s flagship fastpitch line, one ounce more than the -10 at the same length, and it comes only in 32, 33, and 34 inch lengths, which tells you who Mizuno had in mind: high school, college, and elite travel hitters with the strength to carry it. It’s a two-piece composite bat, so all that extra mass comes with the smooth, forgiving feel at contact that the CRBN PRO is known for, and it wears the Black-Pink Tetra colorway, a dark barrel with pink and orange graphics, a matching gradient grip, and purple accents.
The CRBN PRO’s feel comes from pairing a Black Onyx Carbon barrel with a Black Onyx Carbon handle through Mizuno’s two-piece Detonator COR construction. The barrel runs Mizuno’s Paired Barrel Detonator COR technology, a double-wall design engineered to maximize energy transfer at contact and produce the deep, booming sound CRBN hitters recognize from across the field, while keeping the swing weight manageable so a -9 doesn’t turn into a chore by the sixth inning. The two-piece build isolates vibration from off-center contact at the connection instead of sending it into the hands, and Mizuno’s patented Dual Frequency Dampener in that connection uses two different materials to reduce vibration without adding flex, so the PRO stays responsive on a square hit and comfortable on a jam shot. That combination matters more on a -9 than on any other drop, because a heavier bat carries more energy into every mishit. Black Onyx Carbon in both pieces keeps the bat durable through a full season, Cylinder Seaming keeps the barrel consistent around its full circumference, and a Speed-Helix Grip finishes the handle. Full 2-1/4 inch barrel, approved for USA Softball, USSSA, NSA, ISA, and WBSC play, and backed by Mizuno’s one year warranty.
A -9 is the easiest premium fastpitch bat to buy too early. A hitter who moves up before her swing is ready loses bat speed, and losing bat speed costs more than the extra ounce gives back. That’s exactly the kind of decision LongballBats.com is here for! We’ve been the Bat Performance Experts since 2016, our friendly staff offers more than 100 years of combined baseball and softball experience, and we carry the full Mizuno CRBN lineup, so we can tell you honestly whether your hitter is ready for the PRO -9, whether she should stay in the -10 drop for another season, or whether the one-piece CRBN1 -9 fits her swing better. Tell us her age, size, current bat, and what kind of hitter she is, and we’ll get her into the right Mizuno the first time.

QUESTION: Is the CRBN PRO -9 balanced or end loaded?
ANSWER: Drop weight and swing weight are two different things, so the -9 label by itself doesn’t answer that. A -9 simply means a 33 inch bat weighs 24 ounces. In Mizuno’s CRBN PRO lineup, the -10 drop and -11 drop are built with a balanced swing weight, and the -9 has traditionally carried a touch more barrel presence than its lighter siblings, which suits the stronger hitter it’s built for. Either way, the Paired Barrel Detonator COR design is engineered to keep the barrel’s swing weight manageable, so the PRO -9 feels like a heavier CRBN PRO rather than a different kind of bat. If you want a true end-loaded power bat, this isn’t that. If you want more mass behind a smooth two-piece swing, it’s exactly that.
QUESTION: When should a hitter move from the CRBN PRO -10 to the -9?
ANSWER: When she can swing the -9 at the same length with the same bat speed and timing as her -10, through a full practice and not just a few hard cuts. A cage session with both bats settles it: if her swing stays repeatable and her contact stays consistent with the -9, she’s ready. If she starts getting late on good pitching or her mechanics change, one more season in the -10 is the better call. The -9’s 32 to 34 inch size run is built for high school and college hitters, but strength and swing quality matter more than age or the level of her team. Our friendly staff would love to give you one-on-one guidance when making this decision, just reach out!
QUESTION: What’s the difference between the CRBN PRO -9 and the CRBN1 -9?
ANSWER: Both are Mizuno’s -9 fastpitch bats in the same 32 to 34 inch lengths, with Black Onyx Carbon and the full set of fastpitch approvals. The difference is construction. The CRBN PRO is a two-piece, with a carbon handle joined to the barrel through Mizuno’s Detonator COR construction and Dual Frequency Dampener, so mishits feel smooth and vibration stays out of the hands. The CRBN1 is a one-piece, with a stiffer, more direct feel and Mizuno’s AntiShock taper handling vibration. A strong hitter who wants the most forgiving feel with extra mass picks the PRO -9. A strong hitter who wants a quick, connected one-piece picks the CRBN1 -9. We carry both!
