TL;DR Arturo Ramos and Toby Letak signature senior bat: two-piece composite, 12 in barrel, end-loaded swing. UFC Barrel Tech, Stick and Spin tacky barrel, OPTI-DURA carbon, Max Speed Handle. SSUSA and ISA. Power hitters. 25.5-29.5 oz. Add our ProMAX Heat Roll for maximum performance.

A 12 inch end-loaded barrel is a specialist’s bat, and the 2026 Suncoast Melee Max 3 End Load 12 inch, model SMM3SE12, makes no apology for it. It’s the compact version of Suncoast’s two-piece Melee Max 3 senior power bat: the same end-loaded weighting as the 13 inch Melee Max 3 End Load, concentrated into a shorter barrel that whips through the zone faster and puts its mass to work in a tighter hitting area. That’s the recipe a senior hitter wants when he already finds the barrel and wants the quickest possible version of a power swing. It’s the signature model of Arturo Ramos and Toby Letak, it’s offered in half-ounce weights from 25.5 to 29.5 ounces, and it wears the boldest finish in the Melee Max 3 family: black with red and yellow barrel graphics, a white handle, and a white grip color-matched to the handle. If you’d rather have an extra inch of forgiveness with the same load, the 13 inch Melee Max 3 End Load is the sibling to look at.

Shortening the barrel changes how everything else on the bat behaves, and Suncoast’s tech suits the compact format well. The OPTI-DURA Performance Composite barrel, an aerospace-grade carbon fiber laid up through Suncoast’s proprietary process for performance and durability hit after hit, is shaped with UFC Barrel Technology to keep the barrel’s response consistent across its length, which on a 12 inch barrel means the whole hitting surface is working, not just the middle. Stick and Spin Barrel Technology gives it a tackified surface that grips the ball a fraction longer on a cut swing and spins it faster for a higher trajectory and more distance, and with an end load behind it that lift is what carries a drive over the fence instead of into a glove at the track. The Max Speed Handle’s smaller diameter lets the hitter whip the barrel through the zone and keeps the bat under control on a quick swing, and the two-piece construction takes the sting out of a mishit, so a jam shot in game three doesn’t follow you into game four. The barrel is 2-1/4 inches, the bat is approved for SSUSA and ISA senior play, and it’s available in 34 inch lengths at 25.5, 26.5, 27.5, 28.5, and 29.5 ounces, backed by Suncoast’s 120 day warranty from date of purchase.

Senior softball has more end-loaded 12 inch options than any other corner of slowpitch, and telling them apart is a job for a shop that knows the senior game. LongballBats.com has been the Bat Performance Experts since 2016, our staff brings more than 100 years of combined baseball and softball experience to the senior lineup, and we’ve gotten our hands on tens of thousands of bats over the years, which means we’ve put a lot of senior barrels side by side and know how a Melee Max 3 End Load swings next to a Melee Megaload or a Melee Superload. We carry the full Suncoast Melee lineup, including both barrel lengths of the Melee Max 3 End Load, the Melee Max 3 Balanced, the Melee Megaload, the Melee Superload, and the Melee Diamond OG, so we’ll match the load and the barrel length to your swing instead of selling you the one with the prettiest paintjob. Tell us your age bracket, what you swing now, and whether you’re a fence hitter or a gap hitter, and we’ll tell you straight whether the Ramos and Letak 12 inch is your bat. Call or email us and we’ll sort it out!

QUESTION: Should I order this bat stock/untouched or Heat Rolled with Progressive Pressure?
ANSWER: If you order your new bat Heat Rolled with Progressive Pressure, it will be delivered to you completely and evenly broken in. This process adds 20-40ft of distance to your solid hits, increases consistency, improves durability and adds 2-3 business days of lead time to your order. If you plan to use the bat in an official game or event, please verify the legality of our process with your league or sanctioning body before use. We (LongballBats.com) do not encourage the use of a Heat Rolled bat in any game or event where it is against the rules. Click here for details about our process!

QUESTION: Why would a senior hitter choose a 12 inch barrel over a 13?
ANSWER: Speed and concentration. A shorter barrel carries its mass closer to the hands than a 13 inch barrel at the same weight, so it swings quicker, and when that barrel is end-loaded the shorter length keeps the load from feeling long and lazy; it feels like a compact hammer that gets through the zone in a hurry and arrives with authority. That’s the bat Arturo Ramos and Toby Letak put their names on, and it’s for the hitter who consistently squares the ball up and doesn’t need the extra inch of forgiveness. The cost is margin for error: a 12 inch barrel has a smaller sweet spot than the 13 inch Melee Max 3 End Load, so a ball caught toward the end or in on the hands isn’t going to carry the way it would on the longer barrel. If you’re a precise hitter who finds the barrel every time and wants the quickest version of a senior power bat, the 12 inch is the right pick. If your contact wanders, or you’d rather have forgiveness than quickness, get the 13.

QUESTION: How does the Melee Max 3 End Load 12 compare to the Melee Megaload and Melee Superload?
ANSWER: They’re three different amounts of load on three different builds, and the Melee Max 3 is the most balanced of the three power bats. The Melee Max 3 End Load 12 is a two-piece composite with a moderate end load, built so a strong hitter gets more mass at contact without the bat getting away from him. The Melee Megaload is Suncoast’s heavier end load, also a two-piece, built for the hitter who wants maximum distance and has the bat speed to move a lot of end weight. The Melee Superload is a one-piece bat with a heavy load and the stiffest, most direct feel of the three, for the hitter who wants to feel every bit of contact and doesn’t mind the vibration. A simple way to think about it: if you want a power bat you can still control late in a long day, start with the Melee Max 3. If you want the most mass you can swing and you’re sure you can swing it, look at the Megaload. If you want that and a one-piece feel, the Superload. We carry all three and can walk you through the differences; just call us!

QUESTION: Which half-ounce weight should I swing in a 12 inch end load?
ANSWER: Start one notch lighter than you think. Because this bat’s weight sits toward the end of the barrel, a 27.5 swings heavier than a 27.5 ounce balanced bat, and the compact barrel doesn’t give you much room to be late. Most senior power hitters with good bat speed land at 26.5 or 27.5 in this bat, which gives them real mass at contact while keeping the swing quick. The 25.5 is for a hitter who wants the end-loaded feel but has lost a little bat speed, or who’s coming from a lighter balanced bat and wants a gentle step up. The 28.5 and 29.5 are for big, strong hitters who’ve swung heavy bats their whole lives and still get them through on time in the fourth game of the day. If you’re moving over from a 13 inch end load at the same weight, you can usually stay at that weight, since the shorter barrel offsets some of the swing weight. Tell us what you swing now and we’ll point you to the right half-ounce.

QUESTION: Can I use a senior bat in a mixed, coed, or open league?
ANSWER: Usually not, and it’s worth knowing why before you buy. The Melee Max 3 End Load 12 is approved for SSUSA (Senior Softball USA) and ISA senior play, and it’s built to the senior performance standard, which is hotter than the USSSA and USA Softball (ASA) standards that govern most adult, coed, and church leagues. It does not carry the USSSA or USA Softball stamps, so an umpire checking bats in an open league will pull it, and some leagues treat an unapproved bat as an automatic out or an ejection. Where you can use it is any league or tournament that follows the SSUSA approved bat list, including most 40 and over, 50 and over, and older divisions, and ISA senior events. If you play senior ball and an open league, plan on two bats; Suncoast’s Ruckus Resurgence line is dual stamped for USA Softball and USSSA, with NSA and ISA on top, and covers the open side. As always, confirm the stamps against your league’s list, and ask us if you’re not sure what your league requires.
