QUESTION: Who should swing an end-loaded senior bat, and who shouldn’t?
ANSWER: Swing it if you already drive the ball and want more of it. An end load adds mass toward the barrel end, which means more momentum at contact and more carry on a well-struck ball, but it also means the bat feels heavier than its listed weight and takes more bat speed to get through the zone on time. The hitter who belongs in the Melee Max 3 End Load has above-average bat speed for his age bracket, squares the ball up consistently, and hits for extra bases or over the fence when he connects. The hitter who doesn’t is the one who’s been getting beat by the senior ball, who’s lost a step of bat speed, or who makes his living on line drives in the gaps.
