Iron sharpens iron. That's what's written down the barrel of the Combat Leather Horses, and it's the whole idea behind the bat! The Steel Horses collection is Combat's tribute to motorcycle culture, built to bring the feel of a well-tuned bike to the batter's box, and where the Red Rider is the machine, bright paint and chrome, the Leather Horses is the rider: a blacked-out Spec A1 dusted with cream speckle, Combat MFG in cream script, a tan leather-look grip that could've been cut from a riding jacket, and the Steel Horses emblem, a running horse with a lightning bolt, stamped near the knob. It looks like it's been on the road a while, and it hits like it's in a hurry to get somewhere. Combat built it as a limited edition, individually numbered, in the same five sizes as the rest of the Steel Horses Spec A1 line.

Underneath the leather is the bat that put Combat back on the map! The Spec A1 is a stiff, balanced one-piece alloy that independent bat labs have rated at the very top of the BBCOR class, and SFX Barrel Technology is the reason: special engineering processes that give the Spec A1 a longer barrel and a bigger sweet spot than any other one-piece alloy, so more of the bat produces hard contact and a ball off the end still finds the outfield grass. The balanced swing weight keeps it quick through the zone without sacrificing any barrel performance, and testers consistently note that a barrel this big still swings balanced, which is why it works for contact hitters and power hitters alike. Combat tuned the stiffness to hit with the direct feel of a one-piece and forgive like a two-piece on a jam shot, so the feedback is honest and the sting is manageable. The Clinch Spec Grip comes pre-loaded with extra tack and just the right amount of cushion. And the sound at contact is the same unmistakable thwack that turns every head in earshot and has hitters barreling balls up just to hear it again. Fully BBCOR .50 certified for high school and college play, with Combat's full twelve month warranty.

Combat's own philosophy is that it would rather be the best than the best known, so it releases every bat in small, limited batches on purpose, and the Steel Horses drops tend to be gone before most hitters know they happened. LongballBats.com has been the Bat Performance Experts since 2016, our friendly staff carries more than 100 years of combined baseball and softball experience, and we've built one of the largest Combat Spec A1 selections anywhere, from the current drops to our Rare Finds section where we stock the sold-out and limited edition colorways you can't get from Combat anymore. If you want the Leather Horses in your size, grab it while we have it, and if you're not sure whether to swing a 33 or a 33.5, ask us. We'll give you a straight answer and get the right bat in your hands quickly.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

QUESTION: Should I order this bat stock/untouched or Heat Rolled with Progressive Pressure?
ANSWER: If you order your new bat Heat Rolled with Progressive Pressure, it will be delivered to you completely and evenly broken in. This process adds 20-40ft of distance to your solid hits, increases consistency, improves durability and adds 2-3 business days of lead time to your order. If you plan to use the bat in an official game or event, please verify the legality of our process with your league or sanctioning body before use. We (LongballBats.com) do not encourage the use of a Heat Rolled bat in any game or event where it is against the rules. Click here for details about our process!

QUESTION: What does "Iron Sharpens Iron" mean on the Leather Horses?
ANSWER: It's the motto Combat chose for this bat, and it comes from Proverbs 27:17 about how people make each other better by pushing each other. In a baseball context it's about the dugout: the teammate who throws you extra BP, the pitcher who won't give you anything to hit in practice, the guy in the cage next to you who's hitting bombs. You get better by swinging against better. Combat put it on a bat that looks like it's already been through a few seasons of that, and it fits.

QUESTION: What is Combat's Steel Horses collection?
ANSWER: Steel Horses is Combat's motorcycle-themed series, built around the "Firing on All Cylinders" tagline. The Spec A1 side of the collection includes the Red Rider, a one-piece alloy in red and cream, the Blue Biker and the Leather Horses, the blacked-out, leather-grip version. Combat also released a Steel Horses Shadow Rider on its Spec H1 hybrid platform, a two-piece with a touch of flex and a slight end load, for hitters who want something softer in the hands. Every Steel Horses Spec A1 is built identically with SFX Barrel Technology, a balanced swing weight, and the Clinch Spec Grip, so choosing between the Leather Horses and the Red Rider is purely about which look belongs in your bag. We carry the Steel Horses bats as they drop, and the ones that sell out land in our Rare Finds section.

QUESTION: Is the Leather Horses legal for high school and college play, and who is it built for?
ANSWER: Yes on legality. The Leather Horses is a -3 BBCOR bat carrying the BBCOR .50 stamp, which makes it legal for NFHS high school and NCAA college play, and its black and cream colorway doesn't run into the college bat color restriction that affects some of Combat's brighter orange colorways. As for who it's built for: hitters who want a stiff, balanced one-piece alloy with a sweet spot that doesn't feel like it belongs on a one-piece. That covers a lot of the high school and college market, which is why the Spec A1 shows up in so many dugouts. As always, confirm with your league or conference before game day.
