The -8 is the heaviest CRBN1 Mizuno makes for 2027, built for the hitter who has outgrown a lighter drop and wants more bat to work with. The 2027 Mizuno CRBN1 F27 -8, style 340703, is a one-piece composite fastpitch bat with a 2-1/4 inch barrel, Mizuno’s X-Zone barrel technology, and a double wall design for a big, forgiving sweet spot. It comes in just two sizes, 33 inches at 25 ounces and 34 inches at 26 ounces. That tells you exactly who it’s for: bigger, stronger high school, college, and elite travel players! Mizuno calls the colorway White-Pink Tetra. It pairs a light barrel and pink and orange graphics with a matching pink-to-orange grip and a purple end cap. If the -8 is more than your player needs, the CRBN1 -9 and CRBN1 -10 share the same look and build. Hitters who like a two-piece feel can compare it with the Mizuno CRBN Pro.
Here’s what’s going on inside the barrel. X-Zone Technology adjusts the composite angles in 10 specific zones along the barrel, which spreads performance out and gives you a larger sweet spot. The double wall construction builds on that, adding pop and making the bat more forgiving when contact isn’t perfect. Down in the taper, Mizuno’s Anti-Shock construction cuts the vibration that reaches your hands. That matters on a one-piece bat, where there’s no separate connection to soak up a mishit. The Optimized End Cap gives well-hit balls a great sound and helps the sweet spot deliver more pop. Cylinder seaming keeps performance consistent around the barrel, and the Speed-Helix grip adds comfort and durability. The one-piece build itself gives you a stiff, connected feel through the zone. The bat is approved for USA Softball (ASA), USSSA, NSA, ISA, and WBSC/ISF play. Sizes are 33"/25 oz and 34"/26 oz, and Mizuno backs it with a one year warranty.

QUESTION: When should a hitter move from the CRBN1 -9 to the -8?
ANSWER: When the -9 drop starts to feel light. The clearest signs are a hitter who’s consistently out front, pulling a lot of balls foul, or losing control of the barrel because it moves too easily. Strength matters more than age here. Players who have filled out, lift regularly, and stay on time against good pitching are usually ready. One simple test is to have your player take a round with a heavier bat. If the swing stays short and the barrel stays on plane through the last few swings, the -8 is worth a look. If the swing gets long or the hands start to drop, stick with the -9 a while longer. And since the -8 only comes in 33 and 34 inches, your player needs to be ready for that length too.
QUESTION: Why does the CRBN1 -8 only come in 33 and 34 inches?
ANSWER: It comes down to who the bat is built for. A -8 drop means the bat weighs eight less in ounces than its length in inches, so the 33 inch weighs 25 ounces and the 34 weighs 26. That’s the heaviest setup in the CRBN1 family, and it’s aimed at bigger, stronger high school and college players who already swing those lengths. Players who need a shorter bat will find more options in the lighter drops. We carry the CRBN1 -9 drop in 32 to 34 inches, the -10 drop in 30 to 34, and the -11 drop in 28 to 31. If your player needs a 32 inch or shorter, the -9 or -10 is the place to look.
QUESTION: What do the double wall barrel and Anti-Shock taper actually do?
ANSWER: They handle two different jobs. The double wall barrel is about performance. Mizuno builds it for higher peak pop and a larger sweet spot, so you get more power and more forgiveness when contact isn’t perfect. The Anti-Shock construction sits in the taper, between the barrel and the handle, and it’s about feel. It cuts down the vibration that travels into your hands. That’s a big deal on a one-piece bat, since there’s no separate connection piece to absorb a mishit. Put both together with X-Zone Technology, and you get a bat that’s lively across the barrel without punishing your hands when you miss.
QUESTION: Will the -8 hit the ball farther than a -9?
ANSWER: Only if you can swing it just as fast. Both drops are the same bat built to the same certification standards, so the -8 doesn’t have a hotter barrel. What it does have is an extra ounce! If your bat speed holds steady, that added mass puts more force behind the ball and can add some distance. If the extra weight slows you down, even a little, you’ll give back more than you gain. That’s why it’s worth testing before you move up. The best -8 hitters swing it as if it were a -9. Confused? Call our friendly staff; we're eager to answer any and all questions for you.
